Thanks to Hunton & Williams, the Georgia Association of Paralegals, and AVLF’s Junior Board of Directors, four families — and 10 children — were given stress-free holidays. 

Safe and Stable Families volunteer Farley Ezekiel explains why representing survivors of domestic violence in court is personal to her. 

Perez received the honor for her tireless work on behalf of survivors of domestic violence. 

This year’s Domestic Violence Awareness Month brought collaboration between organizations to the forefront of the conversation. 

“Every time one of our clients is provided representation or assistance by someone in this audience, the broken edges of our society are drawn together. The gaps that deny the most vulnerable of our society access to justice are bridged.”

This award was given to AVLF due to the hard work and unwavering partnership of the Safe and Stable Families team.

I think we can agree that physical abuse is bad. But absent that, at what point should we be concerned?

My mom explained that Jennifer had a habit in the following years of calling her when she got scared.
When Jennifer called that day and I answered, it had been nearly 20 years since she and my mother had first met. Over these years, Jennifer kept my mom’s home phone number and knew that she could call it when she was frightened or needed an answer.

On average, a survivor leaves her abuser seven times before she leaves for good. That means a victim returns to an abusive relationship six times. AVLF’s Family Law Program is taking aim at that statistic.

The statistics surrounding the overlap between housing problems and domestic violence are staggering: 39% of cities in the U.S. cited domestic violence as the primary cause of family homelessness.

As my husband and I were packing for North Carolina, he asked me if I was going to miss being one of the cool kids. When I looked at him for clarification, he simply said, “AVLF.” My time at AVLF has been one of the most incredible opportunities of my life, and, while I am excited for the future, I recognize that I likely will never work in such a supportive, positive, and enthusiastic environment again. My coworkers’ passion for their work is genuine and contagious. They are also just fun people. I honestly liked staff meetings.
