AVLF’s mission is to create safe and stable homes and families by inspiring the fight for equal justice.  We aspired to make long-term commitments to and build trust with neighborhoods where we thought we could help bring more stability, like Forest Cove.

The Courts are beginning to re-open. As COVID-19 disproportionately affects Black communities throughout the country, access to legal advocacy is more important than ever.

Ironically, our formative decision to stay small and focus on impact resulted in unprecedented growth. Now it’s time to re-group.

Good evening. My name is Michael Lucas and I have the privilege of being the Deputy Director of the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation. Our Safe Families Office is the place where AVLF – through our volunteers – literally saves lives. By watching – and getting more involved in – the amazing work that we do in that program over my seven years at AVLF, I have learned a lot about intimate partner violence. I have learned that it touches everyone.

In the first 120 days of Standing with Our Neighbors, more than 100 volunteers have contributed to this innovative initiative.
