This fall, AVLF’s Standing with Our Neighbors (SWON) team had the opportunity to connect with the Carver Cluster community during a special tour of the area. The event was an incredible chance to showcase the work we’re doing alongside our partners and hear directly from clients about their experiences with AVLF’s SWON program.

During the tour, we visited the COR and Focused Community Strategies (FCS) facilities, where we witnessed firsthand how local partnerships are helping to drive positive change in the community. Our clients also shared their stories, showcasing the impact we’re making together.

The work of the SWON team continues to have a direct impact within the community through individuals like Evelyn, a client who recently received crucial housing support. After dealing with a malfunctioning oven and a refrigerator that wasn’t keeping food cold, Evelyn was struggling to meet basic living needs. Through the support of the SWON team, we were able to advocate on her behalf, resulting in the replacement of both her oven and refrigerator, ensuring she could safely prepare meals and avoid daily food waste.

This is just one example of the many ways the SWON team is helping our clients secure safe, stable living conditions. By addressing urgent needs and advocating for systemic change, we are not only improving the quality of life for individuals but also contributing to the overall strength of our communities.
