Landlord-Tenant Disputes: Different Zip Codes, Different Rights?

March 8, 2016 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm

PART OF PRO BONO MARCH MADNESS: From Bankhead to Buckhead, from modest to mansion, all Atlantans deserve safe and stable housing. The law requires timely repairs and faithful adherence to eviction procedures. But when landlords break the law, tenants in low-income areas have fewer resources to enforce the law in court. Major housing changes in Atlanta since the 1990s have reduced tenant options and forced some to endure dilapidated housing or even homelessness. But legal help can level the playing field and give impoverished tenants a fighting chance. This training will address the most common landlord-tenant disputes, the disproportionate challenges faced by tenants in poorer neighborhoods, and the most effective ways that lawyers can make things better.
