It never even occurred to me that My Atlanta wasn’t the Atlanta: that my perception was limited by my footprints, which were guided by my privilege.

Ms. Cochran walked into the courthouse flanked by two attorneys, two damages experts, a mold expert, two witnesses from the apartment building, and an officer with the Atlanta Police Department’s Code Enforcement Section, Ms. Cochran walked into the courtroom with an army.

AVLF is usually a last resort for the tenants who come to us for help. That was true in Ms. Coltrane’s case: her pleading calls to her landlord about the mold infestation in her home had gone unanswered for months.

Ms. Malone has so much strength. After being held hostage by her child’s father for hours, she came directly to the Safe Families Office to file for legal protection against him.
