About The Program:
The Beltline. Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The Turner Field sale. The rapid transformation of Atlanta’s landscape is touching many lives and neighborhoods, including those of low-income residents who pay low rents on modest homes. In fact, Atlanta has a long history of dramatic housing shifts – starting in 1936, when we bulldozed a slum called Tech Flats and built the first public housing project in the country, Techwood Homes. How have these changes affected tenants’ rights to safe and habitable homes? How do our eviction laws shape the concentration of poverty in our city? Part history lesson, part legal skills-building training, this CLE will equip attorneys to represent tenants in non-repair cases and eviction disputes with the goal of avoiding involuntary displacement.
