Viraj Parmar

Managing Attorney, Housing Court Assistance Center

Viraj Parmar manages the Housing Court Assistance Center. In that capacity, Viraj oversees the day-to-day activities of the Center. His days are spent interviewing and advising tenants on housing related issues, litigating a small percentage of those matters, and coordinating volunteer participation at HCAC.

Viraj’s legal career began as a judicial law clerk in Barrow, Alaska, the most northern U.S. city. There he lived in a rural, Arctic village and served as a Deputy Magistrate presiding over misdemeanor arraignments. Later, Viraj concentrated his practice on employment law matters, helping employees tackle cases under the Americans with Disabilities Act, Civil Rights Act of 1964, Family and Medical Leave Act, and the federal wage and hour law.

Growing up, Viraj attended elementary school in Taipei, Taiwan and graduated from high school in Cairo, Egypt. These experiences, in part, taught Viraj to bridge cross-cultural and socioeconomic divides, and, more importantly, develop compassion for those struggling.
