Last month, we offered more holistic services to the Thomasville Heights community at our Turn Up and Turn Out Event.
Since January 2017, our Standing with Our Neighbors project has been hosting a monthly community outreach event called Turn Up and Turn Out (TUTO). It has been an excellent way to connect with the neighborhood, to meet families, and to show the community that we’re there to serve them. In March, we expanded the event to include more services and activities.
In addition to the usual tenants’ rights presentation Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation provides, we also co-hosted a family law pop-up clinic in March to provide local residents with free advice on family law matters.
Stephanie Parker from Dress for Success also led a workshop in the media center, offering advice on being work-ready to women in the community.
These new additions to the March TUTO event are part of AVLF’s larger initiative to better integrate our services, providing more comprehensive, holistic assistance to families in need.
Students from Georgia State University generously offered their help by greeting residents, spending time with the kids, stuffing gift bags, and assisting AVLF staff. And after the event, we partnered with Faith Community Outreach to conduct a community clean-up around the neighborhood.

We’re delighted to work with partners in the community to expand these efforts, and we can’t wait to see what’s next.

As AVLF’s Communications Associate, Ashleigh helps Katie King with website content development, social media outreach, and various other forms of communication with our fiercely compassionate supporters. Ashleigh is ever-eager to share the remarkable stories of our clients, and the impact of AVLF’s staff and volunteers on our community.
Before joining AVLF, Ashleigh was a Fulbright Scholar in Turkey. She holds a BA in English and Linguistics from the University of Georgia. She is also a performance artist, and can occasionally be seen performing movement pieces, poetry, and combinations of the two around Atlanta and beyond.
