The Fulton County Family Violence Task Force works to break down the barriers for survivors seeking safety in Fulton County.

It’s already difficult – and markedly dangerous – for survivors of intimate partner abuse to seek safety. And when they take the significant risk to seek help, survivors should not have to face further institutional barriers.

The Fulton County Family Violence Task Force was create to address any and all institutional barriers survivors of family violence face when seeking safety and stability.

In February, the Task Force held its first quarterly meeting of 2019, where they elected their new officers for the year. Two of the officers are AVLF team members.

Jamie Perez, SSF Project Director, along with Jill Schirling-Allison, Partnership Against Domestic Violence’s (PADV) Managing Legal Advocate at the Safe Families Office, were elected to co-chair the Task Force. Cynthia Padilla Pearson, SSF Legal Education & Outreach Coordinator, was elected as Secretary.

The Task Force had its first meeting with its new leadership team on Wednesday, May 15. The group is seeking 501(c)(3) status for to make it eligible for various grant opportunities.

Jamie and Cynthia are grateful for the opportunity to serve Fulton County in this capacity and are excited to help lead the task force through 2019.

Cynthia Padilla Pearson

Legal Education & Outreach Coordinator

Cynthia is the Legal Education & Outreach Coordinator for AVLF’s Safe and Stable Families Project. Cynthia connects with our Standing with Our Neighbors program to bring resources and relief to those dealing with intimate partner abuse who haven’t made it to the Safe Families Office. Cynthia identifies and creates new outreach and training opportunities with law enforcement, landlords, schools and other partners in the community. 

Cynthia graduated with a B.S. in Criminal Justice from Georgia State University in 2008. She also received an M.S. in Conflict Management from Kennesaw State University in 2011. Cynthia has a strong background assisting survivors as they navigate the courthouse. She has worked in just about every courtroom in Fulton County as a Victim/Witness Advocate in the District Attorney’s Office and serving as a Judicial Case Manager for a Senior Judge. In her spare time, you can find her at a local spin class or reading the latest publications on balanced and restorative justice.
