MLP+ is a medical-legal collaboration that links patients to the legal and social services they need to stay healthy and stable. By recognizing how legal issues like unsafe housing or financial instability impact health, MLP+ builds a coordinated support network that goes beyond treatment.
We partner with healthcare providers like Kaiser Permanente and CareSource to identify patients experiencing legal or social challenges. From there, we connect them with a range of local resources—from utility assistance and job training to eviction defense and family law support.
How it works
When a patient at a partner healthcare provider—currently Kaiser Permanente or CareSource—faces a legal or social crisis, MLP+ steps in. Our team acts as a bridge, linking them to critical legal help and supportive services through AVLF and our partners.
We help individuals navigate:
- Housing instability & eviction defense
- Domestic violence & protective orders
- Benefits access (Social Security/disability)
- Food & nutrition resources
- Mental health & counseling support
- Job training & financial stability
- Utility assistance and more

Why It Matters
Legal problems often go unrecognized in healthcare settings, even though they directly affect outcomes. MLP+ ensures that doctors, attorneys, and social workers work together to support the whole person—not just the diagnosis.
Eligibility & Referrals
Currently, MLP+ serves individuals insured through Kaiser Permanente or CareSource, or referred through an AVLF program. We are actively working to expand to more healthcare providers.
