AVLF Named Tapestri Community Partner of the Year
KATIE KING | October 20, 2017
This award was given to those who make the lives of immigrant and refugee survivors safer.
We are proud to announce that the Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation was named one of Tapestri’s Community Partners of the Year for 2017. Seven other organization also received this accolade, including Raksha and the Georgia Asylum and Immigration Network.
Tapestri is an organization dedicated to ending violence and oppression in immigrant and refugee communities using culturally competent and linguistically appropriate methods. They focus on advocating for those affected by domestic violence, sexual assault, and exploitation through education, community organizing, and direct services.
This award was given to AVLF due to the hard work and unwavering partnership of the Safe and Stable Families team. They work daily to combat domestic violence and break down the legal barriers that often send survivors back to their abusers.
The award was given during Tapestri’s domestic violence forum “The Refugee and Immigrant Journey: Past, Present, and Future” on October 5th. Safe and Stable Families Director Jamie Perez and Staff Attorney Nilufar Adbi-Tabari accepted the award on behalf of the entire team.
Abdi-Tabari also presented at the forum. She spoke about the implications family law can have for refugees and immigrants.
