Troutman Sanders has been one of AVLF’s most exemplary partners since our inception forty years ago.
Troutman Sanders and its attorneys provide crucial support to our organization: attorneys from Troutman Sanders have enthusiastically volunteered with us for decades, they have generously donated to our fundraising campaigns year after year, they have hosted awareness and service events, and they serve on our Board of Directors with zeal.
“Over the many years the firm has served the Atlanta community, we have found that supporting and partnering with AVLF to be one of the best and most effective ways to implement improvements to our community.”
Steve Hewitson, Partner at Troutman Sanders
Steve Hewitson—a Partner at Troutman Sanders, an Annual Campaign Steering Committee member, and long-time AVLF donor— expressed his deep gratitude for the enduring relationship between AVLF and the firm. “Troutman Sanders works hard to help improve the communities in which we live and practice. Over the many years the firm has served the Atlanta community, we have found that supporting and partnering with AVLF to be one of the best and most effective ways to implement improvements to our community. Whether it’s assisting tenants in disputes with their landlords, keeping kids healthy and in school, or supporting victims of intimate partner abuse, AVLF is the backbone of legal services for a vulnerable and underserved population of our great city. We are honored to have a role in supporting this great organization with our time, talents, and financial support.
“AVLF gives our attorneys a platform on which to stand with our neighbors and deepen our legal skills and experience. We appreciate that AVLF is a well-run, fiscally efficient organization that puts its clients’ needs first, just like we do here at Troutman Sanders.”
“Working with AVLF provides an opportunity for us to connect with the community and to participate in something bigger than ourselves or the firm.”
Terri Hendley, Senior Pro Bono Manager at Troutman Sanders
Terri Hendley—Pro Bono Manager and dedicated AVLF donor— highlighted Troutman Sanders’ commitment to giving back to the community. “Working with AVLF provides an opportunity for us to connect with the community and to participate in something bigger than ourselves or the firm. AVLF creates impact through innovative approaches and a collaborative spirit and assists our pro bono practice. Supporting AVLF is the right thing to do.”
For the last several years, AVLF’s Executive Director Marty Ellin has borne witness to a strikingly enhanced pro bono presence in the legal community thanks to the firm. “In 2019, AVLF is especially grateful for Troutman Sanders’ increased volunteer participation and the firm’s decision to jumpstart AVLF’s SAFE Fund campaign with a dramatic gift; it modeled the support that we needed to assure the campaign’s success.
“Troutman’s attorneys hold important seats on AVLF’s Board of Directors and Junior Board of Directors. The firm often hosts AVLF trainings and meetings, and regularly looks for new ways to inspire lawyers throughout Atlanta to support the common good—including hosting a Law and Philanthropy seminar this year. We are incredibly fortunate to have such a good friend in Troutman Sanders!”

With the vital support of steadfast partners like Troutman Sanders, AVLF is able to provide first-rate legal services to low-income Atlantans as they demand safe and stable housing, insist on fair pay for an honest day’s work, and break free from intimate partner abuse. You, too, can play a part in determining the future of our community: a donation to our 2019 Annual Campaign ensures that we can advocate for over 5,000 Atlantans, that we can provide comprehensive care through our innovative legal programs, and that we can focus on meeting our clients where they are – geographically and emotionally – to help them come up with a plan to get them where they want and need to be.
