Through volunteerism, Board membership, and financial support, King & Spalding has been with us for forty years in the fight for equal justice.
For forty years, attorneys from the Atlanta office of King & Spalding LLP have held leadership roles on our Board of Directors, Steering Committees, and volunteer rosters. (John Chandler, a retired partner of King & Spalding, was actually one of AVLF’s co-founders!)
The decades of support from both the firm and its attorneys, whether in time or in money, have helped bring safety and stability to thousands of Atlantans.
Paul Murphy—an AVLF Board member, longtime donor, and volunteer—voiced his personal dedication to the enduring relationship between King & Spalding and AVLF. “King & Spalding’s commitment to public service, community involvement, and volunteerism is a part of our institutional DNA,” he remarked. “As such, it is no surprise AVLF has been a centerpiece of the firm’s pro bono, volunteer, and fundraising efforts. For me, witnessing all that AVLF does and the vital role that it serves in both the legal system and the community at large, makes supporting AVLF a calling of the highest order.”

King & Spalding is once again a Grand Cru sponsor of the AVLF’s Annual Campaign, with several of the firm’s employees individually donating at the Host level and higher.
John Horn, another AVLF Board member, generous donor, and volunteer attorney from King & Spalding, echoed Murphy’s sentiments. “I first had the privilege to work directly with Marty on a landlord-tenant dispute as a first-year King & Spalding Associate almost 20 years ago. Since then, AVLF has enjoyed truly remarkable growth and transformation, but throughout AVLF’s history the most critical component is its lawyer volunteers who offer Atlanta’s best legal talent and financial support to people in need. King & Spalding certainly has an extraordinary tradition in donations of both.”
“The relationship between King & Spalding and AVLF is a longstanding and proud one,” says Marty Ellin, our Executive Director. “From the Foundation’s inception, the lawyers of King & Spalding have been AVLF Board members and even Board presidents; they have been aggressive and engaged volunteers—and in 2001 even founded the still-thriving Eviction Defense program; and they unfailingly have been among the community’s leading financial donors. We are grateful to King & Spalding for the many, varied forms of consistent, enthusiastic, and generous support to AVLF!”
Did you know? King & Spalding volunteers created our Eviction Defense program.
The growth of our innovative programs depends on support from dedicated donors like King & Spalding. A donation to our Annual Campaign helps us leverage the collective power and resources of our professional community to advocate for clients during their time of greatest need. The ability to serve our clients holistically—both inside and outside the courtroom—depends on the unrestricted funding that our Annual Campaign provides. Your donation will help us meet clients where they are, both geographically and emotionally, and will help us build a more equitable Atlanta for all.
With your help, our Staff Attorneys can defend a client against a wrongful accusation of fraud, our paralegals can serve survivors beyond the initial TPO, and so much more.
