Kilpatrick Townsend: An Exemplary Partner [Donor Spotlight]

AKSHAYA GARIMALLA | December 26, 2019

AVLF staff and community members at the Barack and Michelle Obama Academy – one of our Standing with Our Neighbors Schools supported by Kilpatrick Townsend.

Kilpatrick Townsend is one of our most effective and enthusiastic partners.

Kilpatrick Townsend has been a long-standing partner of AVLF, collaborating with us for more than two decades to provide exceptional pro bono representation to those who have no other access to counsel when facing a legal problem.

The firm has been a consistent, top-tier financial supporter, and their attorneys provide a tremendous amount of financial and volunteer support in addition to serving on our Board; as an original AVLF SWON partner, the firm—with the help of its employees—also continues to promote the best interests of the families whose children attend Barack and Michelle Obama Academy.

Adria Perez—a Partner at Kilpatrick Townsend, dedicated AVLF donor, and proud AVLF Board member— highlighted the creation of a community through the firm’s relationship with AVLF.

“Kilpatrick Townsend has long been a community leader in providing high quality, free legal service through AVLF’s pro bono programs to survivors of intimate partner abuse, to tenants whose landlords fail or refuse to honor the Housing Code, to employees who are not paid for work performed, and so much more.”

Marty Ellin, Executive Director

“At AVLF’s invitation, Kilpatrick Townsend has made the BAMO (Barack and Michelle Obama Academy) community one of the epicenters of our Atlanta community and legal engagement efforts.  AVLF opened our eyes to how we can be a voice for families; help develop future leaders and create a safe and stable environment.

“In working with AVLF, our firm saw the need to engage with other non-profit organizations, such as HouseProud to repair nearby homes in the BAMO neighborhood, the Atlanta Area Council of Boy Scouts of America to initiate a Scout pack at BAMO, and Everybody Wins! Atlanta to encourage extracurricular reading. We are truly excited to see what further impact we will make in partnership with AVLF in 2020.”

Our Executive Director Marty Ellin emphasized the generation of volunteer service and the support underlying the relationship between AVLF and the firm. “Kilpatrick Townsend has long been a community leader in providing high quality, free legal service through AVLF’s pro bono programs to survivors of intimate partner abuse, to tenants whose landlords fail or refuse to honor the Housing Code, to employees who are not paid for work performed, and so much more.
