Please join us in welcoming Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s two newest staff members, Katie King and Camille Millar. We’re thrilled that they’ve joined our ranks.
Katie King, Administrative Assistant:
When you call AVLF, you’ll probably speak with me, as I provide the first line of contact for all of our clients. A native of Georgia, I’ve spent the last years in Massachusetts and Mississippi studying journalism and documentary work – the art of talking to people and telling their stories. Through this work, I became passionate about the all too often unseen plights affecting our cities, especially systemic inequality and substandard city development. A drive to combat these issues brought me back to my home city of Atlanta.
I’m currently leveraging this background to run the main intake line – to provide a comforting and knowledgeable ear for every caller’s legal problems, and ensuring that no matter if AVLF is able to handle their case, they still receive the best possible resources. I hope to use my varied skill-set to help AVLF grow in every possible way, drawing from the things I’m most passionate about: community engagement, sustainable and fair urban development, and new media.
Camille Millar, Safe & Stable Families Social Worker:
Growing up I always recognized the disparity between the haves and the have nots. I could never understand why the people who needed the most assistance never received resources that could help them become self-sufficient. In May 2013, I graduated with a bachelors in Social Work from Georgia State University officially starting my professional journey into the social services field. From 2014 to 2015, I became an AmeriCorps Vista and volunteered in Spartanburg, South Carolina. I had the opportunity to work at an outpatient drug treatment center and improve health outcomes for adults suffering from behavioral health issues by connecting them to community resources. I look forward to being an integral part of the AVLF team and having an impactful effect the Atlanta community.
