Every year, nearly 40,000 evictions are filed in Fulton County, and less than 2% of tenants facing eviction have legal representation.
Many of these tenants are low-income and unrepresented, facing near-immediate displacement with no support. That’s why our Eviction Defense Program and Access to Counsel Pilot Program provide representation and advocacy to prevent unjust evictions and serve as a safeguard for families, breaking cycles of housing instability.
When eviction threatens a family’s stability, we step in to provide free legal representation.
Our program connects low-income and unrepresented tenants with legal assistance. Our team is committed to ensuring that tenants are not left to navigate the eviction process alone.

Thank you, AVLF, for taking my case. My attorney was professional, kind, and understanding. We, as a community need more people in the world like her. I hope her blessing and your company’s blessings overflow this year with nothing but greatness! – AVLF Client Feedback

Access To Counsel
In Partnership with City of Atlanta, our Access to Counsel Pilot program was officially launched in October 2023. This initiative explores the impact of providing tenants with full legal representation during eviction cases.
The program operates within four geographic zones in Atlanta. These zones were strategically selected based on both quantitative and qualitative measures, including census data, eviction case filings, and AVLF’s existing work in those areas.
Housing Phone Bank
The Housing Phone Bank provides immediate, accessible assistance to residents who have a pending eviction. Many tenants are seeking only simple advice and consultations about eviction cases – how they work, what the steps in the process are, and how best to raise their defenses or counterclaims. The Eviction Phone Bank connects tenants with a Georgia-barred volunteer attorney who provides free legal advice and counsel.
