Every family deserves the chance to stay in their home. Through the Atlanta Rising Prevention Pilot, Atlanta Volunteer Lawyers Foundation’s Community Support and Prevention (CSP) team is working to make that possible by reaching households before a housing crisis becomes homelessness.
Progress to Date
To date, through Atlanta Rising, the CSP team has provided $393,017 in financial assistance to 126 Atlanta households facing housing instability.
That assistance helps families stay housed during a critical moment, when one missed payment or unexpected expense could otherwise put their home at risk.
About Atlanta Rising
Atlanta Rising is a three-year pilot studying the effectiveness of targeted homelessness prevention in Atlanta. It is led by Partners for HOME in partnership with the University of Notre Dame’s Wilson Sheehan Lab for Economic Opportunities.
As a research study, Atlanta Rising does more than connect neighbors with support. It also helps build evidence about which prevention strategies work best, so that Atlanta and other communities can make informed decisions about how to address housing instability.
Our Role
AVLF’s CSP team is one of the partners carrying out this work in the community. The mission is simple at its core: reach families early, before a housing crisis becomes homelessness.
Preventing homelessness protects more than a roof. It helps families keep their stability, their routines, and their sense of security, and it avoids the far greater disruption that comes when housing is lost.
Looking Ahead
We are grateful to Partners for HOME and the Wilson Sheehan Lab for their leadership and partnership, and to the households who have trusted our team with their needs. As the pilot continues, we will keep sharing updates on what we are learning and the impact this work is having in our community.
If you or someone you know is struggling to keep their housing, AVLF is here to help. Visit avlf.org to learn more about our services.
