For the first time in a decade, she can sleep peacefully.
Ms. G suffered quietly through an 8-year abusive marriage, as so many survivors do. She gathered the strength to separate from her husband, but he continued to contact and harass her, often in graphic terms. He would often threaten to break her neck. But she continued to focus on the safety of her minor children, as her husband was known to carry a weapon and abuse drugs.
After the Safe Families Office provided initial assistance, volunteer attorney Karine Burney of Kessler & Solomiany saw Ms. G through the rest of her hearings. Through this process, Ms. G’s husband was ordered to cease all contact. And because custody was awarded to Ms. G, her husband can have no visitation with their children. Thanks to Karine and her dedication to survivors of domestic violence, Ms. G can sleep peacefully for the first time in nearly a decade.
