The Safe Families Office stands beside survivors of intimate partner abuse, guiding them toward safety and justice.
WHAT WE DO
We provide consultation and legal assistance for survivors of intimate partner abuse.
At a consultation, a survivor can:
Discuss Legal Options
Make a Safety Plan
Talk About Opinions & Goals
Obtain Referrals for Other Support Services

Located within the courthouse and staffed by compassionate attorneys, social workers, paralegals, and law students, we make the legal system more accessible and less overwhelming.
Each year, we assist over 3,400 survivors—connecting them with legal consultations, safety planning, and referrals to critical community resources. When someone needs a temporary protective order—the strongest legal safeguard for survivors and their families—we provide direct representation.
Why It’s Necessary
Navigating the legal system can be overwhelming for many families. Lack of legal knowledge, financial barriers, and fear of retaliation often make it even harder to seek safety and justice.
The Safe Families Office helps break down those barriers—ensuring survivors aren’t alone as they navigate the justice system. With the right support, survivors can secure safety, reclaim stability, and rebuild their future with confidence.

OUR IMPACT
In 2024, more than 1,500 survivors were awarded extended Protective Orders when represented by our staff or volunteers in their evidentiary Protective Order hearings.
Having access to legal counsel, safety planning, and quality, life-affirming conflict management assistance offers real hope for rebuilding healthy, positive lives.
“SFO people are awesome! Everyone I worked with from SFO were very considerate, empathetic and knowledgeable. They understand the emotional issues we go through and provide timely support. I could not have gotten the protective orders without their help. They are life-savers.”
