The Fundamentals of Being a Guardian ad Litem

Learn the fundamentals necessary to become a volunteer Guardian ad Litem with AVLF. Over the course of a full-day training, you’ll learn what it means to act as an officer of the court advocating for the best interest of children in high-conflict custody disputes. Topics taught by seasoned attorneys and psychologists include custody & visitation law in Georgia, child development and the psychological impact of custody decisions, addiction and recovery, and domestic violence and children.

Advanced Topics for GALs

Volunteer Guardians ad Litem are invited to attend our Advanced Topics for Guardians class, where we will explore common, and often complex, issues that Guardians face when navigating sensitive custody cases. The course is intended to enrich your volunteer experience as a GAL in Atlanta. Topics may include children with special needs, child abuse, relocation, a GAL’s role in negotiations, religious and cultural considerations and more. The course will be taught by seasoned Atlanta attorneys and experienced GALS.
