Grandma Wins Stable Home on Appeal

An Atlanta grandmother and her grandsons lived in subsidized housing. From time to time, the grandsons would visit their mother, but they always returned to their grandmother’s house – it was the only stable home they had.

The family’s landlord falsely claimed that the boys had moved out and filed an eviction. The magistrate court ruled for the landlord, but attorney Candace Sneed represented the grandmother on appeal.

The appellate court ruled in her favor, noting that the lease only required the grandmother to report permanent household changes. Months later, the landlord filed a motion to set aside, but last week the court ruled that there was insufficient evidence to grant a new trial. Great work, Candace!
