NOTICE: The Saturday Lawyer Program has gone 100% virtual.
All trainings and interviews are being conducted via Zoom.
For 40 years, the Saturday Lawyer Program has led the way for meaningful pro bono and volunteer work Atlanta.
On Saturday mornings in our downtown office, we connect at-risk Atlantans with volunteer attorneys to provide free, high quality legal assistance for landlord-tenant disputes and unpaid wage claims.
If you do not see a date that you want, need to cancel, or are signing up less than 24 hours before your scheduled volunteer date, please contact Matilde Davis at email@example.com.
After a short training at 9:00 a.m., volunteer attorneys interview one or two potential clients to assess the strength of their claims. If the case has merit, volunteers are encouraged (although not required) to accept the case for representation. The clinic ends around 12:30 p.m.
AVLF frequently needs administrative help on Saturday mornings. This includes organizing and scanning client documents, staffing the locked door to welcome and greet clients and volunteers, and helping out with other tasks. As time allows, you will be welcome to sit in on client intake interviews. Your first scheduled date will be a training day.
AVLF’s Saturday Lawyer Program accepts up to five law student volunteers each Saturday. Law students sit in on the training and on client interviews, assisting with note-taking and case analysis. If needed, AVLF may ask law student volunteers to assist with administrative tasks such as greeting clients at the locked front door of our building. The “door shifts” are brief, but sometimes necessary for the clinic to run smoothly.
