Become a Volunteer Lawyer
Most of our clients are served through one of our programs. However we often get calls from clients who have problems that just do not fit into the guidelines of those programs. We then try to place these cases directly with you our volunteers.
Here is an example of one of the cases currently available:
1. CAR SALE SHENANIGANS
JD - The client signed papers to purchase a car. She paid a “down payment” of $1,500, the dealership agreed to attempt to find financing for her and she drove the car home without title or tags. A week or so later, the dealership called explaining that they could not secure financing, but told the client that if she paid another $1,800 “down-payment” they would keep trying to find financing. The client sent a check to the dealer for the amount that she had been told would be the monthly payment if financing were arranged, but that check was never cashed. The client was told to return the car: when attorneys from AVLF called the dealer to inquire about the status, the dealership promised to call back but instead called the client and offered her $2,500 if she returned the car. The client needs direction about her legal options.

AVLF's ANNUAL SUMMER ASSOCIATE RECEPTION IS JUNE 3, 2008!
The annual AVLF Summer Associate Cocktail Party and Fundraiser will be held on Tuesday, June 3, 2008, from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. at the Atlanta office of Sutherland Asbill & Brennan. The cost for each attendee is Fifty Dollars ($50).
Each year AVLF asks Atlanta's firms and corporate legal divisions to make this gathering a part of their Summer Associate program. Law students have the chance to meet each other, renew friendships with classmates and, most importantly, to become acquainted with opportunities to participate in our legal community's long-standing tradition of pro bono service. The event not only introduces Summer Associates to the work of AVLF and other pro bono organizations but it helps fund AVLF, which directly serves thousands of low-income clients each year from the volunteer generosity of Atlanta's lawyers.
We hope that all of Atlanta's Summer Associates can join us on June 3 for the good food, drink and camaraderie that are hallmarks of the evening. With questions or for more information, please contact Jeff McIntyre at 678-681-6010.
